about
MADboots dance co. was co-founded in August 2011 by Jonathan Campbell & Austin Diaz. The company made its premiere at the Gibney Dance Center, and has since been presented at festivals in Italy, Canada, New York City, and New Jersey, such as the Alto Jonio Dance Festival (Italy), Springboard Danse Montreal, David Parker’s Soaking WET, knees and toes (Toronto) & DANCENOW Joe's Pub Dance Festival (2012 Challenge Winner).
Aside from performing, the duo has also taught master classes at Broadway Dance Center (NYC), Dance New Amsterdam (NYC), Point Park University (Pittsburgh,PA) and Velocity Dance Center (Seattle,WA). To give back to the community at large, Campbell and Diaz led a benefit class at Gibney Dance Center to raise awareness and funds for the Born This Way Foundation. MADboots has been generously granted the boo-koo round 4 space grant at Gibney Dance Center, the Inception to Exhibition 2012 Space Grant, and an eight-week residency at the Duo Multicultural Arts Center [DMAC]. In May 2013, MADboots premiered ALL GOOD SONS | blue at DMAC.

artistic statement
It is MADboots dance co.’s mission to question the physicality of artistic expression & push the envelope of movement invention. Through creating complex and theatrical works steeped in athleticism, humor & subtly, MADboots thrives in the collaborative imagination of Jonathan Campbell & Austin Diaz. Often musically driven, the work revels in antithetical aesthetics & uncomfortable realities. Regardless of abstract vocabulary or utilitarian devices, a through line of humanity is always integral to the work. It is the company’s collective responsibility to invest in the creative growth of the individual artist & the community of dance as a whole.
